Dr Chia-Feng (Jeffrey) Yu is a Senior Associate Professor in Finance at the International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) of Xian-Jiaotong Liverpool University (XJTLU). Prior to joining XJTLU, he worked at the University of Adelaide (Go8) in Australia. He is passionate about bringing his research and teaching interests to his new cohorts and developing his career in new educational contexts.
Dr Yu obtained his PhD from Monash University. His research covers a broad spectrum of areas, including corporate finance, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, behavioral finance, and financial disclosures. He has published extensively in leading internationally refereed journals, including the Journal of Business Ethics (FT-50); Journal of Business Finance & Accounting (ABDC: A*); Journal of Business Research (ABS: 3); Journal of Corporate Finance (x3) (ABDC: A*, ABS: 4); European Accounting Review (sole-authored; ABDC: A*); European Financial Management (ABS: 3); European Journal of Finance (ABS: 3); Journal of Commodity Market (ABS: 3); Journal of Futures Market (ABS: 3); Journal of Management Accounting Research (sole-authored; ABDC: A*); International Review of Financial Analysis (x4) (ABS: 3); Pacific-Basin Finance Journal (ABDC: A), Economics Letters (ABS: 3), among others.
Dr Yu enjoys thinking outside the box and conducting interdisciplinary research. He is currently collaborating with internationally renowned scholars in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA on research projects examining competition and coordination within top management teams, the real effects of financial disclosures and regulations, the determinants and consequences of technological and financial innovation, and public sector auditing. He also collaborates with scholars from various universities in China on research projects addressing environmental, labour, and gender issues in China. His work has been accepted to present at prestigious international conferences in different disciplines, including the American Accounting Association (AAA) Meeting, Asian Finance Association (AsianFA) Annual Conference, British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) Annual Conference, European Accounting Association (EAA) Annual Meeting, European Financial Management Association (EFMA) Annual Conference, Financial Management Association (FMA) Europe Meeting, Strategic Management Society (SMS) Annual Conference, among others.
Dr Yu serves as an Editorial Board Member of Humanities & Social Sciences Communications (published by Nature Portfolio; Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS): Q1) and a reviewer for leading internationally refereed journals, including Management Science, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, among many others.
Dr Yu has successfully supervised 4 PhD students and over 20 Master's students. His students, including all PhD students and some outstanding Master’s students, graduated with a thesis that was later published in high-quality (ABS-3/4; ABDC: A/A*) journals. All of his PhD students have secured positions at reputable universities or international investment banks. Several outstanding Master’s students have received PhD scholarships from high-ranking universities in Australia, China, New Zealand, Sweden, and the UK, or job offers from government offices. A number of brilliant bachelor's students who conduct final-year projects under his supervision have been admitted to Master’s programs at top universities, including Chicago, Columbia, Duke, LSE, NUS, and UCL. He always strives to provide timely and helpful suggestions to his students, guiding them to develop and accomplish high-quality research. He has been well-recognized as a superb researcher, supervisor, and teacher by his students and colleagues.
