Charlotte Briggs is Deputy Head of the Academic Literacies Centre (ALC), leading the International Business School Suzhou division at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). She has over 14 years of international teaching experience across eight countries and has spent the past four years at XJTLU as a Senior Language Lecturer. As Deputy Head of the ALC, she provides academic and strategic leadership for academic literacies provision across International Business School Suzhou, overseeing curriculum design, assessment alignment, and coordination of teaching teams across multiple undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Charlotte holds an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Portsmouth. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education from the University of Liverpool. Her academic career has included teaching positions at Eastern International University (Vietnam), Bilkent University (Turkey), Bangkok University (Thailand), Heriot-Watt University, University of Manchester, and University of Warwick (UK).

Before entering higher education, Charlotte worked as a corporate lawyer at Dentons, one of the world’s largest international law firms, with professional experience in London and Edinburgh. She is a qualified solicitor of Scotland and holds an LL.B in Pure Law, a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and a BA in Business Law. Her legal background continues to inform her teaching and leadership focus on Business English, professional communication, and discipline-specific academic literacies for business and management education.

Her research interests include academic literacies in higher education, discipline-specific language development, generative AI in teaching and learning, interactive and gamified pedagogies, sustainability and ESG education, and professional communication in business contexts.
