Personal profile

Personal profile

My doctoral project examines the politics of memory and heritage-making at colonial prison museums in China, focusing on how these sites are designated, interpreted, and experienced by visitors. Drawing on comparative case studies of the Lvshun Russo-Japanese Prison Museum and the Qingdao German Prison Museum, my work critically engages with debates on difficult heritage, authorised heritage discourse, nostalgia, and the politics of remembering and forgetting.

My broader research interests include critical heritage studies, museum interpretation, memory studies, dark tourism, and the intersections between heritage, identity, and governance. I have undertaken fieldwork in China and the UK, combining archival research, field observation, and discourse analysis to explore how heritage institutions negotiate contested pasts and national narratives.

Alongside my PhD, I engage actively in international academic communities. I have presented my research at conferences in Europe, Asia, and the United States, and I am a member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Interpretation and Presentation of Cultural Heritage Sites (ICOMOS-ICIP), the Association of Critical Heritage Studies (ACHS), and the Memory Studies Association (MSA). In addition, I collaborate within interdisciplinary research networks and have contributed to peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.
