Women in Design: opening speech

Activity: Talk or presentationPresentation at conference/workshop/seminar

Description

Opening speech of the exhibition titled Women into Design, One Exhibition, curated by the Sustainability Steering Group. The exhibition opened on 7 March at 17:00 in the atrium of the DB building and remained on display in the lobbies of the DB, ES, and EB buildings until 16 March.

The exhibition featured a selection of 300 influential women architects and designers, with the aim of highlighting their professional trajectories and providing meaningful references for the student community. Each selected figure was accompanied by a brief biographical introduction and documentation of a representative work, offering a concise overview of their contribution to the discipline.

The initiative sought to provide access to female role models within the fields of design and architecture—areas traditionally dominated by male figures. The exhibition was conceived as a pedagogical tool intended to promote recognition of diversity in contemporary design practice and to support conditions of equity within academic training environments. The digital format enabled broader accessibility and extended dissemination across the university community.
