“While looking heaven in the eye” – (Re)considering academia in silence and in rubble

Activity: Talk or presentationKeynote Speech

Description

This keynote stitches together a set of stories about what it means to be in academia in the age of live-streamed genocide of the Palestinian people by the Israeli settler colonial state. I largely draw on art and scholarship of the Palestinian people, as a means of rejecting their erasure, and of honouring their knowledge and cultural production under siege. I offer some reflections from my time in academia so far, the paths of hope and disappointment in the wake of destruction, the silences and the silencing.
