Description
1. Event overviewThis seminar is organised as the key academic session within the Urban Design Institute of Korea (UDIK) delegation visit to XJTLU (25–29 January 2026). The event is planned as an internal academic exchange between XJTLU staff and students and the invited visiting scholars from UDIK. It provides a structured forum to share ongoing research, critically discuss emerging issues in AI-enabled urban development, and identify concrete collaboration opportunities related to AI, smart cities, and urban design.
2. Purpose and meaning
The seminar aims to strengthen international academic engagement between XJTLU and a leading national urban design academic community in South Korea. It is intended to deepen mutual understanding of how AI technologies are being integrated with urban space and governance, and how this integration is reshaping spatial strategies, planning practice, and the role of urban design. The seminar also supports the visiting programme by enabling evidence-based reflection and comparative dialogue prior to and alongside field engagements in China.
Institutionally, the seminar will enhance XJTLU’s visibility as a convening platform for forward-looking, interdisciplinary urban research and will contribute to building durable international linkages that can translate into joint publications, research proposals, staff and student exchanges, and follow-on academic events.
3. Event content and format
The seminar is designed as a two-hour session combining (i) opening remarks and contextual framing, (ii) a set of short research presentations from UDIK and XJTLU participants, and (iii) a moderated discussion focused on research questions, methodological approaches, and collaboration pathways. The working language will be English. All presentations will be delivered in a professional academic format with moderated Q&A to ensure broad participation.
4. Audience and participation
Expected participants include approximately 43 delegates from UDIK (predominantly faculty members, with a small number of PhD students), together with invited XJTLU faculty members, researchers, and relevant student participants. Attendance will be managed via a sign-in sheet or digital check-in to ensure accurate records and appropriate capacity management.
