The Speed-Accuracy Trade-off in Real Life: How Time Pressure Reshapes High-Stakes Decisions

Activity: Supervision › Completed SURF Project

Description

Individuals frequently make urgent decisions under uncertainty across sports,
shopping, finance, and travel. This study (N=400) examined time pressure' s
impact on decision-making via a between-subject,scenario-based survey.
Results indicated that while the time manipulation successfully induced higher
perceived pressure, it did not significantly affect cognitive load, decision
difficulty, strategy, or Al delegation intention. This null pattern remained
consistent across all domains. Exploratory analysis further revealed that
domain experience moderated the effect on cognitive load only.
