Following the experiment conducted on the tiles created by Gio Ponti in 1960 for the Princes’ Park Hotel in Sorrento Italy, students are invited to retrace and identify the basic Matrix of Gio Ponti’s creative process. Through the investigation and analysis of Gio Ponti Design production you will generate a series of infinite Matrix figures, starting with a Square as basic module to create a group of Harmonious rectangles.

Activity 1 – Retrace and investigate Ponti’s Design process
Activity 2 – Grid Analysis, Digitalization and Pattern Permutations
Activity 3 – Clay Tile Prototype Production
Activity 4 – Tile 3D Modeling
Activity 5 – 3D Matrix Tessellation and 3D Ceramic Printing.

The Workshop Outcomes will be exhibited at the Italian Design Icon 2025 event in Shanghai.
