SURF-2025-0375 This project addresses the multifaceted challenges of urban renovation, particularly for old residential compounds in Suzhou, by proposing an innovative data-driven approach. Urban renovation often involves balancing environmental and social sustainability with economic considerations, while navigating the conflicting interests of various stakeholders. Traditional methods, which rely heavily on empirical evaluations and case studies, often fall short of providing comprehensive support for informed decision-making. In response, this project seeks to harness the potential of computational design, evolutionary optimization, building performance simulation, and generative Al to create an automated workflow for design optimization and generation. The goal is to produce high-performing, sustainable solutions tailored to the unique needs of urban renovation projects, with a focus on old residential compounds.
