Artificial intelligence and digital twins are reshaping how we design intelligent cities that move beyond the limited paradigm of “smartness.” Drawing on my research in speculative design, design thinking, and immersive technologies, the presentation demonstrates how AI can become a medium for questioning assumptions, envisioning alternative urban futures, and engaging communities in shaping regeneration. Through international case studies in urban renewal, cultural heritage, and participatory design, the talk highlights pathways where computational intelligence fosters resilience, sustainability, and cultural identity. By reframing AI as a tool for exploration rather than mere optimisation, the lecture shows how human settlements can regenerate into cities that are not only technologically advanced but also liveable, resilient, and beautiful.
