Parahyangan University x XJTLU visit

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising an event e.g. a conference, workshop, …

Description

The collaboration between UNPAR and XJTLU was a milestone in cross-institutional exchange, combining academic dialogue, field observation, and pedagogical co-creation. The partnership was framed not only as a sharing of best practices but also as a step toward creating new, globally relevant ways of teaching architecture in response to pressing social issues. Visitors explored XJTLU’s learning environments, the FabLab, design studios, and collaborative spaces, observing how architecture and campus design actively support the kind of compassionate pedagogy being discussed.

The sharing session opened with presentations from XJTLU staff on design studio pedagogy, including the “Architecture & Compassion: Animal Shelter” final-year project. This studio brief explored the intersection of architecture, empathy, and community engagement, challenging students to design for vulnerable, non-human users — animals — while balancing spatial, technical, and emotional considerations. Following the sharing session, the delegation participated in a site visit, which grounded the theoretical discussion in lived spatial experience.
