Infinite Matrix - workshop

Activity: Participating in or organising an event › Organising an event e.g. a conference, workshop, …

Description

Based on the experimental study of the tiles Gio Ponti designed in 1960 for the Princes’ Park Hotel in Sorrento, Italy, this workshop invites participants to retrace and identify the fundamental matrix of his creative process. Through in-depth analysis of Ponti’s design production, participants will generate an infinite series of matrix figures, beginning with a square as the basic module to create a set of harmonious rectangles. This foundational approach operates independently of the students’ specific disciplines, serving as the universal basis for supporting design processes and fostering creative thinking. Integrating hands-on activities with digital translation and implementation, the workshop guides students in defining a design process applicable to any project. Within this framework, physical and digital tasks work in tandem, contributing not only to the realization of final outcomes but also to the precise execution of the overall design methodology.
