Description

The guest lecture “Public Space, Water, City: A Trip Between Heritage and Future” by Dr. Manfredi Leone, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Palermo, explores the relationship between landscape, heritage, and urban transformation. Drawing from his professional practice in projects such as Parco Uditore and the “Su e Giù” Pop-Up Garden in Palermo, Leone presents design approaches that link ecological systems, cultural heritage, and contemporary urban needs.
This lecture connects to the ARC304 focus on sustainability and climate-responsive design by examining how water, public space, and urban ecosystems shape resilient cities. Through examples from Sicily and international contexts, students gain insights into strategies for integrating heritage conservation with innovative landscape and urban design. The session provides critical perspectives on how public spaces can mediate between tradition and future challenges, offering inspiration for their final year project research and proposals.
