Enhancing blockchain-based construction and demolition waste management with AI analytics

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

Current construction and demolition (C&D) waste management suffers from fragmented data, opaque tracking, and inefficient recycling pathways, hindering regulatory compliance and circular economy goals. This paper proposes a novel hybrid framework that enhances a consortium blockchain-based traceability system with embedded AI analytics. The immutable blockchain ledger provides secure, transparent lifecycle traceability for all waste streams, from generation to final recycling or disposal. Integrated AI modules then analyze this verified data to perform automated sustainability impact assessments, including carbon footprint calculation and circularity potential evaluation. The framework not only ensures data integrity and stakeholder accountability but also transforms raw tracking data into actionable intelligence for optimizing resource recovery. By merging blockchain's trust with AI's predictive power, this system offers a robust solution for intelligent, sustainable, and compliant C&D waste management.
