In recent decades, the strain on vision has increased due to the expanded role of interaction with interfaces in our daily lives and the increase of visual information in general. Designers can address these issues by adopting the “Design for all” approach in project development. Thus, the purpose of the SURF project is to explore the opportunities for design in solving problems related to preventing visual pathologies and designing for individuals with specific visual perception pathologies. The main research question is: What solutions could designers provide for the visually impaired users in a given context? Students followed a design brief to produce several iterations of the design outcomes addressing those needs. The Ophthalmological Educational Center from St Petersburg will support the project. The project was realized with the support of the Suzhou Boaiju Public Welfare Service Center and Kowloon Hospital in Suzhou.
