Description
This research project delves into the transformative potential of AI image generators, specificallyMidJourney and Stable Diffusion, in reshaping the speculative design process within architecture. By
scrutinizing the neural network architectures, iterative development, the study aims to unravel the unique prompt-guided capabilities of these platforms.
Centered around a case study from the design outcomes of Jiashi Yu's workshops in Department of Architecture, "Drawing Narratives - Blooming of Shanghai" in August 2023 and February 2024, the research critically evaluates the integration of AI platforms in speculative design. Through a comparative analysis of design tasks executed with and without AI assistance, the study synthesizes processes into illustrative diagrams.
Additionally, a quantitative examination of the prompts behind the 400 generated images from the workshops provides insights into patterns. Emphasizing a cautious research approach, the project aims to redefine architectural design practices by integrating AI while preserving and enhancing creative ingenuity.
