Between East and West: Teaching Design, Establishing Dialogue

Activity: Talk or presentationPresentation at conference/workshop/seminar

Description

This presentation reflects on a three-year didactic and research journey developed at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, aiming to structure the first-year design education through an integrated and culturally grounded approach. The talk is articulated in three parts: (1) the ARC102 module as a methodological foundation for architectural design teaching; (2) The Stage as a platform for immersive, interdisciplinary learning; and (3) the launch of Incipit Lab Asia-Pacific, a new international network connecting Italian and Asia-Pacific schools of architecture around the shared theme of the beginning of design education. Through concrete examples and strategic visions, the presentation outlines a trajectory that moves from experimentation to structured collaboration, from Suzhou to Rome, from local pedagogical practices to global dialogue.
