Description
Since the inception of cinema, there has been a strong connection between film and architecture. These two disciplines have continually influenced and enriched each other, both in terms of formal possibilities and the ability to depict the social consequences of architectural design. Despite being a common activity in many architectural schools, after the good response of last academic year our department continues to schedule this activity for the entire academic community. The ARC Movie Club aims to create a space where students and tutors can exchange views on cinema and architecture. This club provides an opportunity to discuss architecture in a different setting, fostering critical thinking and learning about its intersection with other artistic and social fields.
Every two weeks almost, a member of the academic community, either a student or professor, selects a film and becomes responsible for it. This person watches the film beforehand and gathers all necessary information to facilitate the activity. They then give a fifteen-minute introduction covering basic information about the film, including the synopsis, cast, direction, year of production, and its relationship to architecture, along with specific details to observe. After the introduction, the film is screened, followed by a 20-minute discussion in a relaxed atmosphere to debate and reflect on the film.
