SURF-2026-0624 This is a research by practice project consisting of the production of an AI Vertical Micro Drama and an analysis of the production processes. The project will utilize AI throughout the production process from ideation and screenwriting through video creation, music, and editing. The project will utilize a portion of the SURF budget for subscriptions to AI programmes such as CapCut integrated with Seedance 2.0 as an all-in-one AI production platform. The project will utilize research assistants to form a production studio to produce the show as an experimental project-based teaching practice. The production process and the teacher and creator experiences will be analyzed to develop understandings of the impacts of AI in production and evaluate pedagogical approaches to teaching AI video production. This research project is significant because of the shift toward AI technologies in media production and it will inform future pedagogical practices and provide students with experiences relevant to the future of media production.
