SURF201925: Sustainable Planning-Design-Build strategies for Rural Revitalization in Guizhou Province, China – A case study of Maiweng Buyi Village

This research explores sustainable planning-design-build strategies for rural revitalization in Guizhou Province, and to foster an innovative collective network that can facilitate the implementation of these strategies in the southwest of China. To revitalize Maiweng Buyi Village in Guiyang through an ‘acupuncture’ approach, the SURF team has worked closely with people from Guizhou Minzu University, local authority and local community. Besides conducting desktop research, observation and interviews, we used research-by-design as an instrument to provide and test a vision for the future development of Maiweng Buyi Village. The design output has been well perceived by local residents and tourists/visitors.
