Key team processes of successful film production

Activity: SupervisionCompleted SURF Project

Description

While cultural products, such as books, movies, and albums, are popular, we know little about effectively managing cultural organizations to produce successful cultural products. This study will use the film industry as an example to investigate key team processes that will impact the success of films. Film success will be measured in two dimensions: audience appeal (average ratings) and audience size (box office gross, which equals the number of audience times the ticket price). Qualitative research methods, including case studies and interviews, will be employed to explore and identify critical collaboration processes in film production teams. In addition, this study will investigate the behaviors of critical team players, such as directors and producers, that can effectively manage these processes. Finally, theoretical and practical implications for Chinese cultural organizations and innovative project management will be discussed.
