Description
In China, the public rail transit system has gradually become one of the daily transportation methods to help to resolve the traffic burden due to the rise of population. At the same time, in order to meet the increasing and complex demands of the public, transit stations can not only undertake traditional single transportation function but also need to superimpose urban functions further to make transit station more versatile and diversified. This development method has derived a concept of "Station-City", which is a specific urban development method that combines the principles of TOD (Transport-Oriented Development) with the characteristics of high-density in Asian cities. It combines transit function and urban functions, maximising the value of traffic nodes and constructing a brand new urban public space. This thesis presents a research-for-design investigation to explore the studio project for developing the strategy of "Station-City" on the Shanghai West Railway Station. In this research, representative cases of "Station-City" in Asian are chosen as the research objects, and three design strategies of integrated design will be summarised and analysed graphically. Besides, this thesis also analyses the research limitations and prospects, providing a new idea of future transit development to China.| Period | Jul 2020 |
