Activity: Participating in or organising an eventOrganising an event e.g. a conference, workshop, …

Description

Completed in 2006, the Suzhou Museum is a landmark architectural project in the historical center of Suzhou, and its design is regarded as an exemplar of "New, Suzhou and Chinese Architecture", or alternatively, as "New Jiangnan Contemporary Architecture". Providing a basis for the Suzhou Municipality’s initiative, "A Hundred Museums City" project, a series of new museums have been designed and opened to the public in its wake. How, though, are we to understand these museum projects?

Organized by XJTLU Architecture’s History, Theory and Heritage (HTH) Research Lab, this 3-days workshop will look into the architecture design practice of I. M. Pei’s Suzhou Museum and associated critiques in view of the new museums since established in the Suzhou region, focusing on the relationship between the public space, architecture design, urban conservation and regeneration, museum cities, and art space production in the Jiangnan region.
