Distributed Maximum Power Point Tracking in Photovoltaic System

Activity: SupervisionCompleted SURF Project

Description

Photovoltaic (PV) energy has gained high popularity in the global renewables market. The photovoltaic generation system (PGS) generally demonstrates a high-power conversion efficiency but has proven ineffective for energy harvesting under various non-ideal conditions. The mismatch condition mainly causes the loss among PV elements, which is commonly caused by manufacture tolerance, aging, and partial shading conditions (PSCs).

New technology has been proposed to solve the partial shadings issues for PGS, which is named distributed maximum power point tracking architecture (DMPPT). However, this DMPPT technology highly increases the numbers of the DC-DC converters increasing the failure rate of the whole PGS. Thus, the research of the Fault-Diagnosis and Fault-Tolerant Control Scheme for DMPPT technology-based PGS has a significant value. The ultimate goal of the study is to achieve a high-power output of PGS in the event that one or more DC-DC converters are damaged.
