ABSTRACT: Urban development has started to reassessment the rough incremental expansion as the city grows, and micro-renewal has progressively gained widespread attention. The old town is an important part of the city that retains much of its cultural landscape and daily life, and it is an important target of urban micro-renewal. Nevertheless, the numerous renewal and redevelopment projects have adversely affected the historical and cultural environment, the spirit of the place, and the old town's traditional appearance and culture, which only focus on economic benefits at the expense of the historical and cultural connotations. Therefore, in the
conservation and renewal of old towns nowadays, it is necessary to seek a renewal strategy for old towns that can effectively coordinate physical renewal and historical and cultural inheritance. This research takes the residential blocks of 37th, 38th, and 44th in the old town of Suzhou as the object of study, explains in detail the connotation and characteristics, the importance, the current problems of old town conservation and renewal, and researches and summarizes the content of the theory of urban micro-renewal. An exploration of micro-renewal in the old town from the perspective of daily life orientation. It tries to examine how urban
micro-regeneration can serve the daily life-oriented urban renewal of Suzhou's old town. It investigates how micro-regeneration can contribute to the formation of local culture. It maximizes the satisfaction of residents' daily life needs and provides a new opportunity to transform the old town's renewal strategy.
